Competition Bureau sues Canada?s 3 wireless giants over texting advertising

The Competition Bureau is suing Canada?s three biggest wireless carriers and an industry association.

It?s seeking a total of $31 million in customer refunds and administrative penalties for allegedly misleading advertising.

The bureau says it?s taking legal action after a five-month investigation into the companies? advertising of premium texting services.

Its allegations have yet to be tested by a court or tribunal.

The federal agency is seeking $10 million each from Bell, Telus and Rogers ? the country?s three-largest wireless carriers.

It?s also seeking $1 million from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, the industry?s main lobby group.
