Former Harvard coach accused of stealing at NY bar

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A former assistant football coach at Harvard has been accused of stealing about $80,000 from a suburban New York restaurant not far from Greenwich.

The Westchester County district attorney's office says Evan Loring, of Wallingford, Conn., has been arraigned on charges of grand larceny and falsifying records.

Prosecutors say the 28-year-old Loring found work last year bartending at Bar Taco in Port Chester after losing his job at Harvard. He was eventually promoted to assistant manager.

They say that between October 2011 and April 2012, Loring manipulated the restaurant's computer system to alter customer receipts, then pocketed the difference.

His lawyer, Robert Schuster, declined to comment.

If convicted of grand larceny, Loring could be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison.
